Now as Lisa’s children begin to leave home she has more time to revisit her career options although is not quite sure where to start.
51 year old Lisa worked part-time as a pharmacist over the last 15 years while also raising her children, volunteering in her community and keeping fit and active.
Now as her children begin to leave home she has more time to revisit her career options although is not quite sure where to start. Re-entering the workforce after a long period of raising a family can be daunting for many people. Changes in technology and ways of working can be barriers to re-entry and support on this journey can be helpful for many seeking to re-enter or reinvent their career.
We started with a 5 year visioning exercise – you can’t get where you are going if you don’t know where that is. The Wheel of Life helped us work out which areas of Lisa’s life areas were flourishing and which ones needed focus.
We mapped out a path to a life in the future that would meet Lisa’s financial, career and life goals and giving her the sense of purpose she was looking for, using tailored tools to explore Lisa’s strengths and interests and align those with potential work, learning and leisure activities.
Once we had the plan in place we dealt with pragmatics by aligning Lisa’s online profile and messaging so her network could also see her next step vision. We also identified and addressed gaps in her technical skills.
After just five sessions, Lisa was able to find a new role that aligned to her strengths and values. Along the way she developed a more compassionate attitude towards career decisions she had made in the past, leaving her free to move forward.
