Burnout Prevention – Skill #3: Find engaging work.

Read Time: < 1 min

Engaging work will absorb, interest, and involve you. Very high levels of engagement are known as a state called “flow”, in which you are so completely absorbed in an activity that you lose all sense of time.
Research shows that choosing tasks, negotiating different job content, and assigning meaning to various components of your job is predictive of work engagement.

3 Tips to Increase Work Engagement
1. Enhance the job you have. How can you shape the activities you perform and the interactions you have at work to express your values, strengths, and passions more fully? Can you take on additional tasks more closely related to your goals?

2. Grow your relationships at work. Think about how you are connecting and interacting with your colleagues and stakeholders. How could you communicate more meaningfully with the people around you?

3. Eat the frog! Conquer your hardest, most important task first thing in the morning. Organise your work to match your energy levels.
